Commodities
Commodities are basic goods such as gold, oil, gas, copper, wheat and coffee: on the markets they are traded mainly through futures contracts.
Their price depends on the balance between production and consumption, but also on weather, wars, decisions by producing countries and the dollar, the currency they are quoted in. Gold is seen as a safe haven that often rises in times of fear; oil and industrial metals instead follow the economy.
